Classes generally follow
regular 10am business meeting at the Clarendon Hills Public Library and
a brief lunch. Every meeting (held on the third
Saturday of the month unless otherwise noted) includes "Show and Tell"
2010, March 20:Scroll Turns in Milanese Lace,Presented by Kathleen Cantwell and
Susie Johnson. Supplies list and additional instructions
can be found here: Milanese Scroll
Turns Booklet. Please print this up and bring with you to the March
meeting. It will include supplies needed, pricking, set up and
etc. Prepare your pricking ahead of time if you are able (see
page 4 of booklet). This project can be a Christmas Ornament or a
bookmark. If you are a beginner in Milanese, we can walk you
through the process of setting up your pillow, but we would be pleased
if you would follow the directions and take yourself down to the bottom
of page two with your project before the March class. If you
like, you may omit a braid for this exercise and work cloth stitch
instead, but if you would like to do a braid, please use your favorite
milanese reference books for ideas.
2010, April 17: Needlelace,
Beginner's Class. Presented by Janice Blair. Sign up Required by March meeting!
Janice will provide needles and also prepare a base for everyone for nominal $3 charge. Class limit of
10. Supplies needed: scissors and
two thickness' of threads of your choice. The red heart used DMC
Pearl Cotton 8 & 12, the green leaf is DMC Pearl Cotton 5
&12. Bring any metallic threads and beads you might like to
include in your design. No prior knowledge of lacemaking is
required. Make your reservation directly with Janice Blair at jblace@sbcglobal.net Note: Non-members will be
placed on a waiting list ($13 fee) as there is a class limit of 10
participants. 2010, May 15: Discussion on Lace Collection Lead by
Expert Doris O'Neill. Doris will emphasize how techniques
used in "traditional" laces have come to be adapted and adopted by
contemporary lacemakers, recognizing that many modern and expert
lacemakers are not interested in viewing or collecting old lace.
Doris will bring lace samples for viewing. The eye candy will
prove inspirational.
2010, June19th: Beginner Bobbin Lace Class presented by
Janice Blair. Details to
be announced. Cloth stitch, half stitch and edge stitch will be
used in the design of the straight lace project.
2010,
September18th: Cards with
Kris, presented by Kris Johnson. Those of you who have
attended Kris' card presentations in the past know how much we all
enjoy he lessons. Materials needed TBA. Plan your card with
lace or photo insertions. Our beautiful lace is not just for our
walls, clothing and bookmarks anymore, lace pieces and photos of our
work can be beautifully incorporated into hand made cards!
NOTE: There are still open dates (TBA's) available for presenting
meeting classes. Please express any ideas you have for
classes you may wish to teach to the program chairman! L.A.C.E.
