Upcoming L.A.C.E. Meetings and Programs

Classes generally follow regular 10am business meeting at the Clarendon Hills Public Library and a brief lunch. Every meeting (held on the third Saturday of the month unless otherwise noted) includes "Show and Tell"

2010, March 20: Scroll Turns in Milanese Lace, Presented by Kathleen Cantwell and Susie Johnson.  Supplies list and additional instructions can be found here: Milanese Scroll Turns Booklet. Please print this up and bring with you to the March meeting. It will include supplies needed, pricking, set up and etc.  Prepare your pricking ahead of time if you are able (see page 4 of booklet).  This project can be a Christmas Ornament or a bookmark.  If you are a beginner in Milanese, we can walk you through the process of setting up your pillow, but we would be pleased if you would follow the directions and take yourself down to the bottom of page two with your project before the March class.  If you like, you may omit a braid for this exercise and work cloth stitch instead, but if you would like to do a braid, please use your favorite milanese reference books for ideas.

2010, April 17: Needlelace, Beginner's Class.  Presented by Janice BlairSign up Required by March meeting!  Janice will provide needles and also prepare a base for everyone for nominal $3 charge.  Class limit of 10.
Supplies needed: scissors and two thickness' of threads of your choice.  The red heart used DMC Pearl Cotton 8 & 12, the green leaf is DMC Pearl Cotton 5 &12.  Bring any metallic threads and beads you might like to include in your design.  No prior knowledge of lacemaking is required.  Make your reservation directly with Janice Blair at jblace@sbcglobal.net
Note: Non-members will be placed on a waiting list ($13 fee) as there is a class limit of 10 participants.

2010, May 15: Discussion on Lace Collection Lead by Expert Doris O'Neill.  Doris will emphasize how techniques used in "traditional" laces have come to be adapted and adopted by contemporary lacemakers, recognizing that many modern and expert lacemakers are not interested in viewing or collecting old lace.  Doris will bring lace samples for viewing.  The eye candy will prove inspirational.

2010, June19th: Beginner Bobbin Lace Class presented by Janice Blair.  Details to be announced.  Cloth stitch, half stitch and edge stitch will be used in the design of the straight lace project.

2010, September18th: Cards with Kris, presented by Kris Johnson.  Those of you who have attended Kris' card presentations in the past know how much we all enjoy he lessons.  Materials needed TBA.  Plan your card with lace or photo insertions.  Our beautiful lace is not just for our walls, clothing and bookmarks anymore, lace pieces and photos of our work can be beautifully incorporated into hand made cards!

NOTE: There are still open dates (TBA's) available for presenting meeting classes.   Please express any ideas you have for classes you may wish to teach to the program chairman!  L.A.C.E. would like to thank all those who have volunteered in the past for meeting classes.  The meetings would not be the same without your generously contributed time and talents!
