Cross designed
by Janice Blair
Materials:
Mettler 30 cotton
5 bobbin pairs wound continuously with approx 1-1.5 yards
1 worker pair wound continuously with 3 yards
1 pair extra for leaf tallies
Directions:
Work in cloth stitch with a twist before edges and wholestitch the
edges. Pins will be reused
on the inside corners and outer corners of the arms of the cross.
If reusing a pin, omit the twists
between the stitches on the outer passives. Sewings are made up
the center of the arms where a
pinhole is shared.
When cross is almost complete the last sewing is made below the center
leaves, add the
extra pair and use with the worker to make the tallies. Make leaf
to center and hold with a pin,
make second leaf and sew the second tally into the cross, make a plait
back to the center to work
the next tally. Continue with this method until all 4 leaves are
completed. Plait back to center of
cross and tie off one pr. Twist worker pr back to the original
sewing and continue on with the
cross, making sewings into the starting line.
Tie and cut off center threads and use the outer threads to pass
through your backing material
before framing.
